Typhoon Maysak - Now headed for Urdaneta Mission Area

Typhoon Maysak didn't hit Guam, but on Sunday, March 29th, it went directly over the Island of Chuuk where we have over 20 missionaries. It descended upon Chuuk as a Category 1 Typhoon, with around 80 mph winds. All missionaries were safe and received no harm.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Guam are sending supplies to help the people of Chuuk and Yap. Guam missionaries helped with the humanitarian efforts.

Typhoon Maysak now headed toward the Philippines

Many buildings and roofs on Chuuk are not made to withstand Typhoon force winds. Many were destroyed. Elder Bloxham, who was living in the Mechitiw area, came to Guam and shared some pictures with me.

After the typhoon hit, the eye of the storm passed over, giving time to assess some of the damage before the next round. Elder Bloxham noticed a tree had fallen down, blocking the entrance to the church and the missionary apartment.

About 40 people watched the storm from inside the church.

Then the winds and the rain really got stronger.

As the winds started to slow down, they noticed a tree had fallen on the mission truck.

Elder Heim and Elder Bloxham's church owned house. They walked to some of their neighbors.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all who may be in harms way of these storms. Including Elder and Sister Roberts (my sister), who are serving in the Urdaneta Philippines Mission.
