Just before we left to go home, our President and Sister Thomas held a mission-wide online meeting to discuss the new guidelines for staying indoors during the COVID-19 outbreak. It was good to see many of the missionaries, even if it was just online. I took some screen-shots of the event.
Minutes after the meeting we received a message from Elder and Sister Jensen that the US State department issued a Global Health Advisory for people traveling in foreign countries.
After reading this we felt strongly to talk to the mission president about possibly moving our flight to go home sooner. We then heard that the India government was not allowing any more commercial airliners to land in India beginning in just a few days on Sunday. We were able to get on a flight that left about 11:00 pm Saturday night with a few other missionaries.
We immediately started packing.
Christopher came over and helped us pack and better yet, he brought over some spicy chicken curry to try. My last bit of curry heaven.
Goodbyes to Elder Willnauer
We took this last picture out in front of the mission home before leaving for the airport.
We wore masks most of the journey home - so long it made out ears hurt!
Picture in Seattle, Washington airport waiting for connecting flight to Salt Lake City. The flight was almost empty.
Arriving home to Salt Lake City - A few of our family greeted us unexpectedly. Most stayed in their cars - The social distancing begins...
They brought our old car with over 250,000 miles. It still runs like a charm.
Arriving home in our little condo. Our family had welcome signs, cookies, flowers, and the fridge and pantry were full of food. We didn't leave our place for nearly two weeks.
We love and miss all of the wonderful people me met in India and hope to be able to return some day. We loved all of the experiences in India.
That's our car under a white blanket - Back to snow...
In May we were on a road trip and happened to be driving close by where the Willnauers were staying in Missouri. We had a little back yard dinner together.
